DIY Furniture - upcycling with pallets

The course will cover an overview of the tools and techniques used in taking apart a pallet, and turning it into something new, using reclaimed timber.
We have extensive experience of upcycling and using reclaimed timber in construction some of which can be seen on our site.
This course is for anyone who wishes to turn pallets that may be lying around, or reclaimed timber into something useful.
Using a hands-on workshop we will go through the initial stages of constructing a piece of furniture.
A list of topics covered in the course includes:-
• Pallet sourcing.
• Taking apart a pallet.
• Using the whole pallet with as little waste as possible.
• Ways of connecting/joining planks together.
• Marking out.
• Using hand tools safely.
• Demonstrate how to use power tools safely.
You will gain practical skills and experience of materials, tools and construction used in upcycling pallets.
Tutor Carwyn Lloyd Jones who has over 20 years experience in the construction industry and is an expert in timber framing, including some of the buildings around the CAT site.
Due to the nature of this course some practical work will be done outside. We strongly advise you to bring waterproof clothing and steel toe-cap boots are mandatory.
You must be over the age of 18 years when this course starts.
