Course details

This six day course is part of CAT’s new degree course Sustainability in Energy Provision and Demand Management, a solutions focussed degree where a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of how we are effected by and how we affect our environment is key to enabling us to make future ethical decisions on an individual, community and global level.

You’ll gain an informed understanding of the technological, policy, maintenance needs, environmental and social benefits and limitations of wind power generation.

You’ll also learn to comparatively appraise the above in a holistic, objective and self-reflective manner.

Lecture topics include:

• Technological aspects of wind generation.
• Resource assessment using complex and simple methods.
• Site development issues both onshore and offshore.
• planning impact assessment, and social attitudes.
• Wind economics and policy support.
• Current market for wind energy, the potential for wind and policy measures to deliver the potential.
• Niches for wind, small schemes onsite generation, and community owned schemes.
• International comparisons.

Joining this module as a short course offers networking opportunities and enables you to become part of the wider network of Masters students working in the field of sustainability.

All content of the course is taught through lectures, seminars, practical workshops, presentations and demonstrations, and throughout this process an active exchange of views and opinions is encouraged.

Things you need to know

Due to the nature of this course some practical work will be done outside. We strongly advise you to bring waterproof clothing and steel toe-cap boots are mandatory.

You must be over the age of 18 years when this course starts.

Booking, Fees and Cancellation policy

To book a place on a course, please choose one of the following options:

Please note: a £250 non-refundable deposit is required to secure your place.

The balance of the course fee is due 28 days before the start of the course.

Our course fees include full board accommodation, tuition and materials, unless otherwise stated.

Please also note our Cancellation & Refund Policy
a) The £250 deposit is non-refundable.
b) For courses of 2 days or more when you give us notice that you wish to cancel:
• 28 days or more – refund minus your £250 deposit (if applicable).
• 27 days notice or less – no refund.
c) CAT reserves the right to cancel any courses. Deposits and fees will be returned in full should this happen.
