Learn how to measure, mark out and cut perfect joints used in traditional timber framing.
The course will cover an overview of the tools and techniques used in marking and cutting joints.
Using a hands-on workshop we will go through the initial stages of constructing a timber frame.
We will use buildings on site as a reference to the joints we will be doing, using the ‘one we made earlier’ method.
We have extensive experience of timber frame buildings around the site.
The course is for anyone that is considering building their own timber frame project, including individuals and community groups.
A list of topics covered in the course include:-
• Timber sourcing etc.
• Various combinations of joints in a timber frame
• What joint to use where.
• Marking out.
• Using hand tools safely.
• Show how to use power tools to cut out joints.
You will gain practical skills and experience of materials, tools and construction used in traditional timber frame building.
Tutor Carwyn Lloyd Jones who has over 20 years experience in the construction industry and is an expert in timber framing, including some of the buildings around the CAT site.
Due to the nature of this course some practical work will be done outside. We strongly advise you to bring waterproof clothing and steel toe-cap boots are mandatory.
You must be over the age of 18 years when this course starts.
