Join our exciting new series of short courses for 2017 where you can learn how to build a whole home!
This March 2017 Timber Frame Self Build course is the first in the series and you’ll be building a frame using a combination of the Walter Segal method and attractive mortice and tenon joints as part of an exposed beam design.
You’ll learn a range of timber frame building techniques, how to use tools safely and correctly, marking out, measuring and cutting the frame as well as frame raising. Also included are talks on planning, ecological building materials and low energy homes. You will gain lots of hands-on experience culminating in a finished timber frame at the end of the week.
Other courses in the series will include frame raising, floor joists and flooring, rafters and roofing, Solar PV installation, partition walls and insulation, straw bale walls and cladding with tiles and timber.
There will also be time during the course to ask questions about your own projects so bring along drawings and plans with you too, if you like.
The course is for anyone with an interest in sustainable construction and self-build. This course welcomes self-builders, construction teachers, individuals looking to re-skill and architects.
Due to the nature of this course some practical work will be done outside. We strongly advise you to bring waterproof clothing and steel toe-cap boots are mandatory.
You must be over the age of 18 years when this course starts.
